Mining Experience

Originally founded as a civil construction company, Caspian was awarded a mining contract with Williamson Diamonds Ltd in 1998. The contract marked the beginning of a journey that led to Caspian becoming the largest contract miner in the country within 10 years.

 

WILLIAMSON DIAMOND MINE

1998 – Present

The cornerstone of the mining division has been the contract signed with De Beers Williamson Diamonds Limited at Mwadui, first awarded in 1998. The contract was renewed again in 2000 for 5 years, again in 2005 for 5 years, in 2010 for 3 years and finally for 5 years in 2013, extending the contract to 2021. The mine operated at a production rate of 4 million tonnes per annum, before increasing capacity to 10 million tonnes per annum in 2010.

TULAWAKA GOLD MINE

2006 – 2015

Mine establishment & contract mining operations begin at Tulawaka gold mine in Tanzania for Barrick Gold in 2004, and Caspian continued as the mining contractor for the duration of the mine life, moving a total of 14 million bank cubic meters utilising a purpose bought and sized Komatsu fleet.

GOLDEN PRIDE MINE

2006 – 2015

In July 2007 Caspian was contracted by Resolute Mining Ltd to carry out mining operations at the Golden Pride Gold Mine. This project was completed in Dec. 2012. During the lifespan of the contract Caspian moved a total of 20 million bank cubic meters, operating a fleet of 15 Caterpillar 777 off highway trucks.

GEITA GOLD MINE

2004 – 2006

Caspian commenced mining services at Geita Gold Mine’s Lone Cone Pit in May 2006.
